The best time to post on social media, revealed

Ok soooo here’s the thing, I know you'd love for me to just dish the exact days and times that you should post, but sadly it’s not that simple.

Trust me when I say, I really wish it was.

But don't worry, I won’t leave you hanging. I’m going to break the equation down for you so you can start to figure this out once and for all. Just follow these steps and I promise you, your engagement will improve. I get it, it’s frustrating, but this will help.

1. First things first, who are you talking to? Do you even know?

If you don't, that's ok. I was right there with you for a long time. Since then I've spent quite a bit of time figuring out who my target audience is, also known as my ideal customer avatar (ICA).

If you’re like me, and most people, you might be making the mistake of trying to talk to everyone. I mean, it makes sense right? Cast the net wide and see how many people you can catch! Ironically, this approach will end up working against you because trying to talk to all the people means you’re actually talking to none of them.

Why is that? Because you're not able to get deep enough and you're not creating that relatedness that ultimately is the secret sauce. It's so important to remember that you can’t possibly relate to everyone and you don’t need to. You’re only looking for YOUR tribe.

2. Once you have that figured out, the next question is, when are your people online?

If you’re talking to other corporate executives, like I am, then early morning or late in the evening will be best. If you’re talking to bartenders, then evenings won’t work at all. Are you starting to see why the answer isn’t so cut and dry?

3. Test and learn.

The truth is, everyone’s target audience will be different. Testing different times of the day will give you your answer. And I highly recommend tracking your engagement with a planning app. I like Plann the best (for Instagram). It gives me insights to help me tweak and grow an engaged audience.
